Nikolaos Bountouvis

I was born and raised in Athens. Medicine has been part of my life for more than 30 years. To me, it is far more than just a job. Throughout these years, I have been deeply influenced by the people I have met, their diverse life stories and their individual healthcare needs.

My professional career has taken me through university hospitals, public hospitals, specialised medical centres and private specialist practices in Greece, the United Kingdom, France and Switzerland. Throughout my career I have had the privilege of caring for a large and diverse patient population, sharing my knowledge and experience with younger colleagues and supporting them throughout their training and contributing to volunteer medical missions in remote and underserved communities. These experiences have enriched me both professionally and personally.

As part of my doctoral dissertation at the University of Bern I focused on diabetes mellitus among refugees. My international clinical experience and my work with people from diverse cultural and social backgrounds have deepened my understanding of the importance of culturally sensitive and individually tailored medical care.

Since September 2026 I have been running my own specialist practice, Endokrinologie Marktgasse, in the heart of Bern’s historic Old Town.

My approach to medicine is based on thorough diagnostic assessment, evidence-based treatment and personalised care. I place particular emphasis on clear communication, shared decision-making and building long-term trusting relationships with my patients.
